Watercolor is a beautiful, interactive medium which is what makes it one of the most exciting and fun mediums to work with. "Let it flow" is my mantra with watercolor. And to let it flow we must first understand and learn the foundations, the keys to working with it successfully. In Watercolor Foundations you’ll build a strong foundation of the basics to further grow your watercolor knowledge and picture making skills. Tools and Materials

You'll learn about the variety and options of tools and materials for painting with watercolor. The different papers, types of brushes and their function, palettes and pigment characteristics.

Water & Paint Control

We take a deep dive into water and pigment control. You'll learn to be mindful of water in your brush, on paper and in mixed pigments so you maintain control of your paint flow.

Laying Washes

You'll learn how to run flat, graded and variegated washes, wet in wet and how to recognize when to put paint down onto wet paper. Then we'll apply the exercises to painting skies.

Mixing & Color Theory

We'll explore four types of mixing and application techniques while tending to paint consistencies. You'll learn color theory and how to mix secondary, tertiary and rich, dark neutral colors.
